Our First Assembly of the School Year: Celebrating Effort, Achievement and Togetherness

A new school year brings new beginnings, new friendships, and many opportunities for children to learn and grow. At St. Mary’s, our first Assembly of the school year was a wonderful morning filled with joy, celebration, and meaningful moments shared together. 💛

Assembly is a special time for our students to come together as a school community, celebrate one another, and recognise the wonderful things happening in their learning journey.

Celebrating Everyday Effort with Star Points

One of the highlights of our first Assembly was the presentation of certificates to students who had earned the most Star Points over the past month.

Each Star Point represents much more than an achievement. Behind every star is a small moment of effort and positive behaviour – a child staying focused during a lesson, taking the initiative to help a friend, showing kindness to others, or simply making an effort to do their best each day.

By recognising these moments, we encourage children to understand that achievement is not only about the final result. Every effort matters, and every positive step deserves to be celebrated.

For the children receiving their certificates, hearing their names called and receiving applause from their friends was a moment of genuine pride and happiness. For their classmates, it was also an opportunity to celebrate the success of others and feel inspired by their friends’ achievements.

Discovering the Mid-Autumn Festival

Our Assembly was also an opportunity for the children to discover more about the Mid-Autumn Festival, one of the most cherished traditional celebrations in Vietnamese culture.

Through shared activities and stories, the children explored some of the familiar traditions and cultural meanings behind this special festival.

From stories they may already know to new cultural discoveries, each activity offered the children an opportunity to learn something new and see the celebration from a different perspective.

Experiences like these help children develop not only their knowledge, but also a deeper appreciation for the traditions and culture that surround them.

Growing Together as a School Community

Perhaps the most memorable part of Assembly was not a particular activity or certificate, but the simple moments shared by everyone.

The excitement on the children’s faces.

The bright smiles.

The enthusiastic applause for their friends.

And the joy and pride of hearing their own names called.

These moments remind us that learning and growing are not journeys children take alone. They happen within a community where children can encourage one another, celebrate each other’s successes, and feel proud of their own progress.

At St. Mary’s, we believe that every child deserves to feel seen, valued, and encouraged.

Our first Assembly of the school year was a beautiful reminder of this belief – a morning where every effort was recognised, every achievement was celebrated, and every child had the opportunity to shine in their own special way. 🌟

We look forward to many more Assemblies, celebrations, and wonderful moments together throughout the school year. 💛
