Let’s have a short conversation with one of our new International Kindergarten teachers, Ms. Jamie.
1. Please briefly introduce yourself | “ My name is Jamie Wayne and I’m thrilled to join St. Mary’s International School! I’m originally from a small beach town called Oxnard, north of Los Angeles, CA. I earned my Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Southern California, Santa Barbara, and recently completed my teaching license in Early Childhood from Moreland University in Washington DC. ” |
2. How did you come to Early Childhood Education? | ” I have experience teaching a range of ages, but I find the Early Childhood years to be the most exciting and rewarding! As a kindergarten teacher, I strive to foster an environment where students feel confident and valued while setting high expectations so they can reach their potential.” |
3. How does one spark imagination and curiosity in students at this age? | ” I believe incorporating play into learning sparks imagination in young learners. This means going beyond book work and worksheets to more hands-on, sensory learning experiences. Lately, children have been spending a lot of time in front of screens, and I do believe technology is a wonderful educational tool. However, I find kids have the most fun and learn best when they’re building, creating, or discovering things in the real world. I’m so happy to be a part of St. Mary’s because I can see that they also hold the same learning philosophy, and have given me the tools and resources to do this in my own classroom.” |
